Its beginning to look a lot like christ...WAIT

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

Yes, Christmas is just around the corner. I am super excited. I can't wait to put my tree up. BUT. Thanksgiving is first.

How did it become acceptable to just completely skip Thanksgiving all together. Christmas decorations are already up in stores, music being pumped through all the stores and the commercials... don't even get me started. ( I am already walking around singing "give the gift of scratchers" if you don't live in the VA area you won't get it and I can't find it on youtube- but it gets stuck in my head for DAYS)

Maybe when I was younger I just didn't notice/care that Christmas was all over the place before thanksgiving, but  I kind of don't think it was.

I refuse to decorate, listen to music, watch movies about Christmas until after Thursday.

I am not trying to offend anyone. In fact, my mom always puts up her special pretty tree really early. In high school it bothered me, but only because it was embarrassing to have a Christmas tree up so early. Now I understand why she does it, but it isn't for me.

Thanksgiving is on Thursday and we really should take the time to remember what it is all about. It isn't about the food (ok it is a little about that), making our lists for Friday and just getting through it so we can get to Christmas. It is about reflecting on the things in our lives that we are thankful for, things we often take for granted.

Spend a little time taking in the meaning of Thanksgiving, enjoying friends, family and food. The after Thanksgiving comes Christmas. Thanksgiving then Christmas in that order.

I hope everyone enjoys their Thanksgiving!

  1. I second that!! Christmas is MY favorite holiday - don't get me wrong! I love the decorations, the music, the food, the gift giving etc.

I also love Thanksgiving. It has a deep historical meaning for our country. We have so much to be thankful for. When need to express our gratitude and it shouldn't be passed over. I think of Thanksgiving as the perfect prelude to Christmas, if you think about it, it should a day with no presents, no gifts just a day of gratitude and fellowship. It is the perfect kick-off to the holiday season. A day to sit back and enjoy one another. So, I agree, enjoy the day, be grateful, love your families & friends, and the food. There is time enough for Christmas...

now, I'll step down. Thank you for allowing me to vent about something that I have stewed over for years....
