I love my little bro

Cake I made for his party

My brother leaves for boot camp very soon. I keep going from one emotion to another about it. I am very excited for him and glad his is finally doing something productive with his life. But I am scared because we are in a war. However, this is the best thing for him and I know he will benefit so much from the things he learns in the Marines.

I love you little bro, you make me super proud.

I love my job

I love my job - the girls are so fun and so cute. I took some video of them on my phone but I can't figure out how to get it on the computer (It is only day 2 with it - I will learn- Plus, I can't figure out how to post a video on here either. My toolbar at the top doesn't have a video option just picture, Ideas?) My one video is of Evelyn figuring out how to walk behind a push toy- Lord help me now.

The girls hang out in their jammies until after am nap, the first picture is Sylvia chewing on a shaker, then it is Evelyn exploring the toy bin, and then one of the two cuties sitting and being cute (and chewing on our jammies)

I am pretty lucky I get to hang out with these girls all day.

Friend Making Monday

Amber at {aefillkins} is hosting Friend Making Monday.

She wants us to finish the sentences from the Simple Woman's Daybook - I thought it was interesting so I figured I would join.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... the weather is crazy, 60+ degrees on January 25th, 2010 in Washington D.C. I went for a walk with the twins in a tee shirt and flip flops. <3 it.

I am thinking....that I need to write some blog posts for my baking blog, and then send out some emails, and then do laundry, and then...

I am thankful... for the direction my life is going. I am finally in a place where I am truly happy. I am also thankful that my little brother is finally figuring out his direction in life.

I am praying... for my family. My brother leaves in about 3 weeks for bootcamp. I pray for him to have wisdom to keep him mouth shut when the Marines are screaming at him, I pray for him to stay safe and injury free. I pray for my parents, who are going to be experiencing a real empty nest for the first time in 25 years. I hope they take the time to get to know each other again, and fall even more in love with each other. We won't be there to bother them :-D (if only the dog would leave them alone)

I am reading... The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

I am creating... dinner (also in the middle of a couple crafty things)

From the kitchen... Dinner is in the oven :-D

Around the house... I have a lot of piles that need attention

One of my favorite things... Cinnamon crunch bagels from Panera, Matt surprised me with some yesterday :-D

A few plans for the rest of the week... work, run, make yummies for Austin, party for my brother at Grandmother's.

Productive Night

I am babysitting the twins over night tonight. I spent most of the night working on a Valentines Day surprise :-D. I can't share it yet, but I will because it is very cute! I am excited. I am also excited because I am getting a new cell phone tomorrow. I have beat mine to death. It doesn't charge, half the buttons don't work and its paint is all chipped off.

I really want a Droid. I am 98% sure that is what I am coming home with. I am a little worried I might break it though. I may actually consider the insurance this time. Plus I can make it PINK with this protective cover.

Matt has this phone, and cover, and so I know it must be good because he researches everything before getting it. Works for me. I don't have to do the work! :-D

We will see! Night, the girls will have me out of bed in about 6 hours. OY.

I need this!

My hair does a funky wavy thing, it used to be super straight. Maybe when I permed it in high school I permanently ruined it. I don't know, but I am not a fan of it. If I blow dry it, and use a little flat iron action, I can get it pretty straight.

Juliana over at A Blonde Walks Into a Blog is giving away the InStyler

This is a rotating straight iron. I have been lusting after a Chi, but this could be 2nd best.

I want it. I need it. I hope I win it.

You can go over and try to win it too! (or not, cuz then I might not win it ;) )

I have a confession to make

I don't think there were many books assigned to me in high school that actually read cover to cover. **GASP** I know. I love to read, I just love to read what I want , not what someone tells me to. I read them enough to know the answers to the quiz, or I looked up the story on the internet. Sometimes I did really well on the quizzes, sometimes not so much. The good thing was that the book quiz was never a big part of my grade and I could always make up for it with other assignments. (sorry mom and dad)

So now, I have decided that I am missing out on some classic books because high school Ang was too busy reading Cosmo, Seventeen Magazine and random other books.

I am currently reading Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol.

After that I plan to read Ender's Game.

The rest of my list is:
The Giver
1984
Animal Farm
The Lord of the Flies
Watership Down (I may not actually read this one - I hated what I did read, but I will give it another chance)
Jane Eyre
Animal Farm
Catch 22 (not assigned in HS but still one I should read)
Catcher in the Rye
The Crucible
The Great Gatsby
To Kill A Mockingbird ( I actually did read this, but I want to read it again)
Macbeth
Of Mice and Men
Native Son
Slaughter House Five
Romeo and Juliet
A Clockwork Orange
Emma ( this was assigned in college - I didn't write my paper on that book so I didn't read it)
Night

Are there others I should read? Please give suggestions. Did you read the books assigned in high school? What were your favorites?

Turducken

Turducken -(1) A chicken, stuffed in a duck, stuffed in a turkey.  (2) A once a year feast with college friends.

My junior year of college the guys decided they wanted to try a turducken ( of course it was guys, who else would think to stuff that much meat together!) They ordered the birds online, and so began the yearly feast. Since we all graduated and moved away, it is nice that we all can still get together and see each other and everyone makes the effort to make it. Some how we found a date for all 20 people to make it (it grew a lot from the original!)

So much fun, so much food, such good friends.  <3 until next year!

wow

I love this video. It speaks to me.

The West Wing

I have tried to take my parents on a West Wing tour twice now. The first time the only room you can take pictures of (the press room) was going to be closed to tours so we decided to wait. Now with all the Haiti stuff all tours today are canceled, and guess when our tour was. Bummer. At least they don't live to far away so rescheduling is not a huge issue. Still a little bummer. I finally caught the twins cold. I could feel it festering in my head and lungs all week, and I woke up today feeling like BLAH. Bummer. I have to go bake and cook today, never fun when you don't feel 100%. I am ready for summer. K? Thanks.

Say a prayer for Haiti today

We all know what happened in Haiti is so tragic, yet we all may be at a loss for what we can do. I know I am. I can pray and pray for them, but I still feel like that isn't enough. I wish I could help more, but I can't go there, and besides the$10 I added to my next cell phone bill, I really can't afford a grand donation. So I will pray. I will pray everyday. Tonight while I run, I will pray. Tomorrow while I wash baby bottles, I will pray.

Someone is doing something amazing, Ree, the Pioneer Woman is offering a different type of give away. She is donating 2 - $500 donations in the winners name to the charity of their choice to help in Haiti. How absolutely generous. Not only that, but for every comment entry that she receives, she is donating $0.10 (there are over 3000 comments right now.)

What a wonderful woman she is for doing this! Go leave a comment, read some of the prayers and uplifting comments that are being left there, and help give to Haiti. HERE is the link.

Say a prayer for Haiti today.

Which way do you roll?

There is a debate between Matt and his mom, and many other people I know. Which way is the right way to put the toilet paper on the holder? Matt and I both agree that the paper should go over. I think when it goes over you can always find the end of the roll. When I lived at home, no one really paid attention to which way it was put on. I don't know how many times I have gotten up in the middle of the night and went potty only to spend 5 mins in the dark spinning the roll around trying to find the end! (what you don't pee in the dark at 3am?) Cottonelle even has a country wide poll. I am interested in seeing how my readers feel about this. Vote in the poll on the right. Then go to Cottonelle and vote too!

Water for Christmas

October 2008 Jody Landers came to our church and poured us all a glass of clean water kool-aid. Last year people gave up Christmas presents, and ran fundraisers. Then throughout the year people gave x amount each month. Jody posted some stats about the past 14 months and how much impact we have had. The following is from here blog. This sent chills down my spine! I am so excited for the clean water movement!

"Numbers (as of Dec. 31, 2009):
In the 14 months that Water For Christmas has been in existence, the total of money raised is $275,000.
Which amounts to $650 dollars a day for 14 months.

In just November and December of 2009: $175,000.
That is equal to 55 community wells.

The total can and will solve very close to 1% of Liberia’s water crisis. (that’s more amazing than it sounds. :-) Yes, we still have work to do…)

And these are my favorite:
That’s 13,750 people.
32 people a day for the last 14 months have received the life-changing gift of clean water."

Who knows what this year will do for Liberia, but I am super excited to find out. If you want to join in the fun go here and read about it, then consider what you can do. I personally can't always do $20 a month, every month, but I am giving a percentage of my tax return. You do what you can, and what your budget allows for. Mine is tight, but my tax return isn't factored into my budget, so taking a percentage off the top won't even hurt me, and hopfully it can help a few people who need it more than me.

I want to get LOST

Photo from Lostpedia

I spent the whole summer watching seasons 1-5 of Lost. I am obsessed and can't wait for Feb 2. I am also a little annoyed that they tease us with a couple weeks of it then take it away for the Olympics. Don't get me wrong. I love the Olympic games and I am very excited for it, but ABC really should have waited until after to bring back Lost. I see a problem though come Feb. When Matt and I watched an episode on Bluray, it would end, and I would look at him and say 1 more, and 1 more would be come 2 and 3 and yes, sometimes 4 more. But now I have to wait a week. 7 DAYS. HOLY COW. I don't know how I can handle that!

Feb 2 we are throwing a party. I am making a Dharma cake, we are making Dharma beer and Dharma chips, and other fun things.

I can't wait to see how this ends. :-D

Works For Me Wednesday

I have never participated in Kristen's WFMW but I go through all the links. I have decided that I would start participating occasionally. Sometimes on this blog other times on my baking blog if it is a baking tip. This week is a backwards WFMW - where instead of me telling you a tip, I get to ask a question! YAY!

My question today is simple, I use whitening toothpaste, but I never seem to see a difference. Other than getting professional teeth whitening, are there any good products?

A Day In The Life

I have found that I love blogging. But often the things I want to blog about do not fall in the baking or running category.

So - here it is, my 3rd blog. Dedicated to anything and everything ME and my life. I will still keep my baking and running blogs because I love them, and I hope that they inspire people.

So why the title of A Day In The Life of Ang? Well A Day In The Life is one of my favorite Beatles songs. No idea why, just LOVE IT.  And I want to share my life with my friends and family. Will this become my livejournal? NO. I will not use this blog to bore you with the details of my everyday routine. But I will share gems from my day and other things.

That being said: Today I almost used

I hope to get a nice background and header up this weekend, bear with the boring template a few days!
